: glia occurring transiently during development of the central nervous system consisting of cells ( radial glial cells ) that have radial processes extending from the lateral ventricles to the external cortical surface and that are involved in neurogenesis and the migration of neurons especially from the ventricular surface to the cerebral and cerebellar cortices
